Total oxidation of propane using nanocrystalline cobalt oxide and supported cobalt oxide catalysts

Abstract Supported and unsupported nanocrystalline cobalt oxides have been shown to be extremely efficient catalysts for the total oxidation of propane. Total conversion with a high stability has been achieved at reaction temperatures as low as 250 °C. In the present work, a comparison between the catalytic performance of bulk and alumina-supported nanocrystalline cobalt oxide catalysts has been made. The influence of crystallite size, nature of the support (alpha, gamma and mesoporous alumina) and cobalt loading, has been probed. One pot light assisted green synthesis, storage and antimicrobial activity of dextran stabilized silver nanoparticles.

Background Green synthesis of nanomaterials finds the edge over chemical methods due to its environmental compatibility. Herein, we report green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) mediated with dextran. Dextran was used as a stabilizer and capping agent to synthesize Ag NPs using silver nitrate (AgNO3) under diffused sunlight conditions. Results UV–vis spectra of as synthesized Ag nanoparticles showed characteristic surface plasmon band in the range from ~405-452 nm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) studies showed spherical Ag NPs in the size regime of ~50-70 nm. Nature of cobalt active species in hydrodesulfurization catalysis: combined support and preparation method effects

Abstract Co/γ-Al2O3, Co/SiO2, Co/MCM-41, Co/ASA and Co/S2 (amorphous aluminosilicate with Al/Si = 0.13 and with Al/Si ≈ 2, respectively) were prepared by the method of wet impregnation and by the method of precipitation in the presence of sodium carbonate. The samples were characterised by XPS, XRD and TPR. The catalytic activity was tested in the hydrodesulfurization of thiophene using a continuous flow reactor. Among the wet impregnated catalysts those supported on the amorphous and ordered mesoporous silica exhibited higher HDS activity as compared to the alumina containing supports. Abstract Uranium tetrachloride, uranyle chloride, fluoride and also nitrate or acetate are very efficient homogeneous catalysts for the Friedel–Crafts acylation of aromatic compounds. With uranyle salts, the reaction, carried under dry air, is highly specific and the mono- or bisacylation products are obtained in high yield. Uranyle catalyst can be quantitatively recovered and reused and the organic products are obtained free of uranium.

Combined effect of noble metals (Pd, Au) and support properties on HDS activity of Co/SiO2 catalysts

Abstract Cobalt-based catalysts supported on different types of SiO 2 are studied in the hydrodesulfurization of thiophene. Amorphous silica and siliceous MCM-41 and HMS, characterized by different texture and surface acidity are used as carriers. The effects due to the modification of the support by impregnation with palladium precursor and to the co-impregnation of cobalt and gold are considered. Deep oxidation of propane using palladium–titania catalysts modified by niobium

Abstract Pd/TiO 2 catalysts modified by niobium have been prepared and tested for the complete oxidation of propane. The catalysts have been characterised by BET, XRD, laser Raman spectroscopy, XPS, DRS and TPR. The incorporation of niobium into Pd/TiO 2 catalysts resulted in a marked increase in the catalytic activity compared to the Nb-free Pd/TiO 2 catalysts, and the activity increased as the niobium and/or palladium loading increased. The addition of Nb significantly modified the nature of the palladium and niobium species. There was a marked increase in the oxygen mobility after niobium addition. Total oxidation of naphthalene using bulk manganese oxide catalysts

Several Mn2O3 catalysts have been synthesized using different preparation methods and tested for the total oxidation of naphthalene, a model polycyclic aromatic compound. The catalysts have been characterized by several physico-chemical techniques such as XRD, TPR, XPS, EDX and TEM. The surface area of the catalyst seems to be of paramount importance, since the mass normalized activity of catalysts increases as the surface area of the Mn2O3 catalysts increases. Octave Spanning Supercontinuum in Titanium Dioxide Waveguides

International audience; We report on the experimental generation of an octave-spanning supercontinuum in a 2.2 cm-long titanium dioxide optical waveguide with two zero dispersion wavelengths. The resulting on-chip supercontinuum reaches the visible wavelength range as well as the mid-infrared region by using a femtosecond fiber laser pump at 1.64 µm.

Ionic liquid binary mixtures: Promising reaction media for carbohydrate conversion into 5-hydroxymethylfurfural

Abstract The conversion of carbohydrates into 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) has been studied in binary mixtures of ionic liquids (ILs), using strongly acidic resin Amberlyst 15 as the catalyst. Shaping 1,2,4-Triazolium Fluorinated Ionic Liquid Crystals

The synthesis and thermotropic behaviour of some di-alkyloxy-phenyl-1,2,4-triazolium trifluoromethane-sulfonate salts bearing a seven-carbon atom perfluoroalkyl chain on the cation is herein described. The fluorinated salts presenting a 1,2,4-triazole as a core and differing in the length of two alkyloxy chains on the phenyl ring demonstrated a typical liquid crystalline behaviour. The mesomorphic properties of this set of salts were studied by differential scanning calorimetry and polarized optical microscopy.
